4 ways of contributing to the preservation of the amazon
The Amazon rainforest is the largest tropical forest ecosystem in the planet, and responsible for the production of about 20% of the Earth’s oxygen. Of course, the impact of this biome goes far beyond this, not only affecting the millions of species that live in it, it is also critical for all life on earth.
In times where climate change endangers this ecosystem is when we all have to ask ourselves how we can protect it; the good news is that you can start and be part of the protection of the Amazon in these ways:
- Know the Amazon’s threats: The first step is to inform yourself about what dangers this rainforest faces by consulting reliable sources like National Geographic.
- Be aware of what you consume: Check out the origin of the products that you consume daily and whether their manufacturing process involves activities that endanger the rainforest, for example, deforestation or the excessive use of chemicals.
- Generate community: Take advantage of the power of the internet or face-to-face communication to encourage discussion and motivate others to be part of the change. You could also join environmental conservation groups through volunteering.
- Support conservation initiatives: Many organizations contribute in a tangible way to the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, you can support organizations such as Amazon Watch or Rainforest Action Network (RAN) or WWF with your donations.
