The Choir of the Amazon
The Amazon is full of magical sounds that compose an immense symphony. The Screaming Piha, a small grey bird, is one of those voices with a powerful song that can be heard for kilometers. Its call consists of a series of three low and high notes described as “uiii,” “uuh,” “ah.”
It has an average length of 25 cm and weighs 80g. Its feathers are entirely grey, with lighter colors on the belly and chest. Its wings, reddish, can take on a cinnamon tone, especially in young specimens. It regularly flies to catch large insects or fruits, sometimes in mixed flocks, but mostly alone. Despite its powerful and characteristic song, it can be very difficult to see.
